I truly enjoy helping students find joy in playing music, whether it be joining a band or just being able to play songs on at home. My goal is to is to make learning music fun while teaching you the techniques and knowledge you need to succeed and to play the music you want to play.
"I have been taking banjo lessons from Victor for over two years. He is patient and kind, and tremendously talented and knowledgeable. I had never even picked up a guitar before, let along a 5 string, left-handed banjo. (The sum total of my musical experience was grade-school clarinet!) But Victor has brought me a long way, both in terms of skill and learning, and also in terms of confidence. Victor has a very calm and down-to-earth style, which I greatly appreciate. On top of being a great teacher, his lessons are really affordable. I really look forward to my "happy time" every week -- playing the banjo with Victor." - Amy K. -- Student
I teach children and adults of all ages and levels. It's never too late to start learning! In addition to the descriptions below, I also offer general music theory and written homework as well.
Guitar: I teach acoustic and electric guitar from complete beginners to advanced students. I mainly specialize in Country, Blues, Rock, Swing and Bluegrass guitar but I also teach a lot of different styles. We will focus on technique such as rhythm playing, walking bass lines, soloing, scales, chord progressions, and learning simple songs and then progress learning harder pieces as well as many famous songs along the way.
Children: With most beginner students, we will concentrate on Mel Bay Modern Guitar Method Grades 1-3 for a fun, comprehensive, straightforward approach to technique and music theory as well as learning many well-known songs.
Banjo: Banjo for beginners to very advanced players. We will learn the basics of Three-finger Bluegrass banjo playing as well as learn many of the tricks and solos of the great players such as Earl Scruggs, Ralph Stanley, Don Reno and Bill Keith. As we progress we will learn how to play music by ear and get you playing music with other musicians!
Mandolin: Lessons from beginner to advanced students. I mainly teach bluegrass style mandolin. We will learn the basics of playing leads and accompaniments and eventually get you playing music with other musicians. I can also teach beginning Celtic music for mandolin.
